Virtual museums exist thanks to the development of new information and communication technologies that have allowed the establishment of new museum scenarios where the limitations of the real space can be overcome thanks to technical resources and that allow the incorporation of cultural evidence that the traditional museum prevents.
Those who exhibit works of non-digital art and mostly respond to the portals that cultural institutions have on the Internet for the dissemination of their collections as well as to offer information on temporary exhibitions, educational activities and data such as location, schedules, rates, ... This type of “Internet museums” can be from digital versions of the museum's own brochure to having enough technological infrastructure to make virtual tours of its rooms.
Who exhibit works of digital art (netart, cyber, webart, ...) and refer us to immaterial environments located in the non-place called cyberspace and with specific characteristics in terms of technology and aesthetics.
Both types of museums are related to the concept "network art" and "network art or net.art". Thus, art in the network designates that normally conceived in another medium and where the network acts only as a means of dissemination and / or exhibition. The net.art for its part, uses the network itself and / or its content, at any technical or cultural level, as the basis of a work of art.
